The Fear of Art - To Luo Zhongli Scholarship

Grandfather:

For the first time to see my grandfather when I was six years old, I put on my best suit. The suit was crumpled when I sat on grandfather’s legs playing boating. I remembered he was very tall, very strict. Later I heard the other museum curator and antique collectors say the same words to him when referred to my grandfather. Grandfather Qiu Yanzhi before was a Shanghai antique collector, and the purpose of collection was pure, beautiful, and thin. In 1980, my grandfather died. The vague impression in my mind was "awe, strict, pure, beautiful, thin".

Born:

On May 27, 2005, I was late for the plane's unpunctuality. And I arrived at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts at half past 17. The arrange man Zhong Biao had urged me twice to hurry up. Therefore I put my luggage away, and carried my bag, wearing a pair of  plain glasses to visit Dean Luo. I have been a lawyer for many years in the United State, however I suddenly became a timid student. I felt respected and feared to the dean. The kind dean suddenly seemed strict to me. I forgot to ask for his opinion about the art, and forgot to tell him that my love to the painting. Luo Zhongli’s scholarship was born.

What is the artistic creation? Maybe, for me, it's just when I was a child to see my grandfather, and it also was the feeling to see Dean Luo. All of a sudden, things in front of my eyes became bigger, higher... In the shock eyes I could see the greatness of art creation. Luo zhongli scholarship fund's goal was to encourage the excellent young art student, and hoped they update the new page of the history of Chinese art. Also it was to honor my grandfather and his humanistic ideals. I hoped that China’s new art could become greater.
